A Standing Desk is Just One Way to Break Your Unhealthy Habits

When it comes to unhealthy habits, it’s pretty hard to think of any that are as bad as smoking. But just because you don’t light up on a regular basis doesn’t mean you’re in the clear. This Yahoo News article highlights 6 common unhealthy habits and how you can change them. As you can imagine, we were pretty happy to see that the article’s first recommendation for a healthier life involves using a standing desk.


However, some of the others were health hazards I was unaware of – like the fact that cooking with natural gas can release contaminants like carbon monoxide into the air at levels similar to second-hand smoke.  Smoke from cooking oil can also contaminate the air and irritate your lungs, so it’s time for me to take a crash course in something called “smoke point”.

Quite frankly, I’ve got a lot of reading to do now, so before I go educate myself on vegetarian cooking and vent hood usage, I’ll perform a public service and share some links to solutions to these issues. So, get comfortable at your standing desk, munch on a healthy snack and check out these links to a healthier life:

Too Much Sitting – Try a standing desk  or sit-stand desk solution (betcha didn’t see that one coming)

Meat/cheese heavy diet – Try eating more vegetable proteins and serving more veggie entrees

Gas stove indoor air pollution – Cook on the back burners and keep your vent hood clean

Cooking oil smoke and fumes – Learn the smoke points of different oils and use the healthiest ones

Indoor Tanning – Don’t use tanning beds. Ever. The End. (If you feel you must tan, use a  lotion)

Lack of Sleep – Turn off the tv, lay off the caffeine, and try natural remedies before relying on meds.
