Well, it’s official – the VARIDESK Pro is a solution to a modern day health issue.
Prolonged sitting is now recognized as a health hazard by the American Medical Association. The L.A. Times reports that the AMA adopted a new policy on sitting in the workplace at their recent annual policy meeting in Chicago.
AMA board member Dr. Patrice Harris notes that, “Prolonged sitting, particularly in work settings, can cause health problems, and encouraging work places to offer employees alternatives to sitting all day will help to create a healthier workforce.” Of course, we already knew this, but it’s nice to have such distinguished new members on our team in the fight against sitting disease.
Healthy at-work options like sit-or-stand desks give workers the power to take control of their health and improve their performance on the job at the same time. In fact, “Standing work stations” and isometric stability balls were among the organization’s specific recommendations for creating healthier office environments.
Additionally, The AMA officially recognized obesity as a disease at their June policy meeting. Although obesity and sitting disease are separate issues, they often occur simultaneously.
